Project Description

Jaw pain, clenching and grinding of teeth are common problems. Teeth can be damaged and a number of different painful symptoms associated with the jaw can affect your overall quality of life.

Collectively, these symptoms are often referred to as Temporomandibular Disorders (TMD).

Symptoms of TMD

When symptoms become chronic (ongoing) and difficult to manage, they can have a significant detrimental effect on your quality of life. It’s an all-too familiar problem; research shows that up to 30% of adults* suffer from TMD, which means they suffer from one or several of the following symptoms:

  • Pain in the chewing muscles and/or jaw joint soreness
  • Radiating pain in the face, jaw or neck
  • Jaw muscle pain or stiffness
  • Aching pain in and around ears
  • Limited movement or locking jaw
  • Painful jaw clicking or popping when opening or closing the mouth
  • Headaches or migraines
  • A change in the way the upper and lower teeth fit together

Traditional approaches involve the use of occlusal guards. However, this is commonly ineffective in relieving TMD symptoms. Also, this approach has low patient compliance as many patients do not like wearing intra-oral devices.

How does it work?

When you move your jaw, your ear canal opens and closes. As the ear canal is so close to the temporomandibular joint (TMJ), it makes it the perfect place to target the source of your symptoms.

When your customised Cerezen devices are inserted into the ear canal, they retain the shape of your ear canal in the open jaw position because they are made from a 3D printed rigid material. This increases the patient’s cognitive awareness and therefore reduces their bruxing and clenching.

The Cerezen devices effectively encourage the jaw to return to a relaxed position and provides symptom relief. The device offers support to the temporomandibular joint and associated secondary musculature, to reduce strain.

Clinical studies show 85% success rate. Cerezen’s main advantage is that it permanently prevents the problems through its unique in-ear placement. It is non-invasive, comfortable and discreet, enabling it to be worn day and/or night with no impact on your lifestyle.
